East Coast Railway has released the centralized notification for engagement of Act Apprentices for the year 2026-27. A total of 1,599 apprenticeship training slots are available across various Divisions, Workshops and Departments under East Coast Railway. Eligible candidates who have passed Matriculation with at least 50% marks and possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade can apply online through the Railway Recruitment Cell, Bhubaneswar website. The selection will be made purely on the basis of Matriculation marks and candidate preference, without any written examination or viva. Online applications will be accepted from 26 August 2026 at 5:00 PM to 15 September 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Candidates must be 15 to 24 years of age as on 15 September 2026, with applicable relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC and 10 years for PwBD candidates. Applicants must have passed Matriculation (10th Class) under the 10+2 system with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board and must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade affiliated to NCVT/SCVT. Candidates whose SSC or ITI results are awaited are not eligible. Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible under this notification. Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) candidates must have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and minimum 50% marks in both 10th and 12th.

There is no written examination or viva for selection. Candidates are shortlisted purely on the basis of their Matriculation percentage, with all subjects included in the calculation. Trade-wise and unit-wise merit lists are prepared from eligible applicants. In case of equal marks, the older candidate is given preference, followed by the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier if dates of birth are also identical.

Standby ListStandby candidates are called strictly in order of merit if vacancies arise due to absentees, medically unfit candidates or rejected candidates.

Selection will be based entirely on academic merit. The merit list for each unit will be prepared on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation, subject to the minimum 50% aggregate requirement. Candidates are considered according to their Unit-Department-Trade preference and academic merit. Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification. Final selection is subject to verification of original documents and submission of the prescribed Medical Fitness Certificate. There is no written test or viva.

Selected Act Apprentices will receive a monthly stipend at the rate prescribed under the applicable Apprenticeship Rules and directives issued by the Railway Board from time to time. The notification does not specify a fixed rupee amount of stipend. No hostel accommodation will be provided during training, and apprentices must make their own accommodation arrangements.

Number of ApplicationsOnly one application is permitted for the same trade. More than one application will lead to disqualification.
Division / Workshop ChoiceCandidates may choose only one Division/Workshop. The choice once exercised is final and binding.
Trade ChoiceApplicants with ITI qualifications in more than one trade may apply separately for each relevant trade.
Registration NumberCandidates must preserve the Registration Number issued after submission and quote it at subsequent stages.
Mobile Number / EmailCandidates must not change their registered mobile number or email ID during the selection process.

Final AuthorityThe decision of the Railway Administration regarding eligibility, acceptance/rejection, selection and allotment of Division/Workshop is final and binding.

Applications must be submitted online through the RRC/BBS website. The opening date is 26 August 2026 at 17:00 hrs and the closing date is 15 September 2026 at 17:00 hrs. Candidates can submit only one application for the same trade and may choose only one Division/Workshop. The Unit-Department-Trade preference must be selected carefully because selection is based on merit and preference. Candidates must retain their registration number and application printout and produce original documents and the prescribed Medical Fitness Certificate during Document Verification.

What is the age relaxation for PwBD candidates? PwBD candidates receive 10 years of upper-age relaxation.
What is the educational qualification? Candidates must have passed Matriculation/10th Class under the 10+2 system with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board.
Is ITI qualification required? Yes. Candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade affiliated to NCVT or SCVT.
Are engineering graduates eligible? No. Engineering graduates are not eligible under this Act Apprentice notification.
Are engineering diploma holders eligible? No. Engineering diploma holders are not eligible under this notification.
Are candidates awaiting SSC or ITI results eligible? No. Candidates whose SSC or ITI results are awaited as on the date of notification are not eligible.
Is there a written examination? No. There is no written examination.
Is there an interview or viva? No. There is no viva or interview.
How are candidates selected? Candidates are selected on the basis of merit prepared from their Matriculation marks, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions.
How is the merit calculated? The percentage of marks obtained in all subjects of Matriculation is considered. Selection is not based on the best-five subjects.
How are ties between candidates resolved? If two candidates have equal marks, the older candidate is preferred. If their dates of birth are also identical, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier is given preference.
Is document verification required? Yes. Shortlisted candidates must appear for Document Verification with their original certificates and documents.
Is medical fitness required? Yes. Candidates must submit the prescribed Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a Government-authorized Gazetted doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon.
What is the apprenticeship stipend? The stipend is paid at the rate prescribed under the applicable Apprenticeship Rules and Railway Board directives from time to time. The notification does not specify a fixed rupee amount.
Is hostel accommodation provided? No. Hostel accommodation will not be provided during the apprenticeship training.
Will Railways provide a job after apprenticeship? No. Completion of apprenticeship does not create any right or claim for employment in Railways.
What certificate is provided after apprenticeship? A Certificate of Proficiency is granted after successful completion of training and passing the prescribed test conducted by the National Council for Training in Vocational Trades.
Can a candidate apply for more than one Division or Workshop? No. A candidate can choose only one Division/Workshop. The choice once exercised is final and binding.
Can a candidate apply for more than one trade? Candidates possessing ITI qualifications in more than one relevant trade may apply separately for each applicable trade, subject to the prescribed conditions.
How many applications can be submitted for the same trade? Only one application is permitted for the same trade. Multiple applications for the same trade can lead to disqualification.
What documents are required for the application? Candidates need their Matriculation documents, ITI marksheet and certificate, photograph, signature and applicable category/reservation certificates.
Is an Aadhaar number required? Candidates are required to provide their Aadhaar details during registration as specified in the notification.
Do OBC candidates need a Non-Creamy Layer certificate? Yes. OBC candidates claiming reservation must possess the prescribed OBC-NCL certificate and current Non-Creamy-Layer certificate.
What is the OBC-NCL certificate date requirement? The notification requires the applicable OBC-NCL certificate to be issued on or after 1 April 2026.
Can candidates send a hard copy of the application? No. Candidates are not required to send the application or supporting documents by post to RRC/BBS.
Will TA/DA be provided for Document Verification? No. No Travelling Allowance, Daily Allowance or Conveyance Allowance will be paid for Document Verification.
Can the Division or Workshop be changed after selection? No. Requests for change of trade, Division or Workshop after selection will not be entertained.
Where are the apprenticeship vacancies located? Training slots are available under Carriage Repair Workshop Mancheswar, Rangada Division, Khurda Road Division, Sambalpur Division and Headquarters East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar.
